If you are selling your sailing boat/yacht and the potential buyer asks for a sail in her, DO NOT assume that the buyer knows how to sail, even if he is togged up in the right gear. Mu buyer asked for a sail, so we cast of from the mooring I put the boat into the wind and raise the Mizzen (its a Hunter Liberty) turned and away we sailed in the stiff breeze, "can we put the main?" he asked. yes said I by now he was on the helm, "turn the into the wind and I will raise it and put a reef in" all was fine until I was on the coach house roof one arm round the boom putting in the reefs, then without a word of warning the nutter at the helm turned the boat, the wind filled the main, out swung the boom (his son had loosened the main sheet) and all but took me over the side, Harvey heeled and shot off like a scalded cat, with me shouting let the main go and turn into the wind. He/we gained control of Harvey, the boy I think came very near to needing a change of trouser and I suggested we motor back and I would drop them off on the quay side while moored up Harvey. Need less to say I did not sell Harvey. You have been warned

Oh dear Len! I thought Harvey looked a little 'upset' on his/her mooring yesterday Good job you didn't ram any moored boats in the river, or even go into the putty. I assume the potential purchaser was never heard from again ;D

Ouch, but I doo LOVE the Liberty, I drooled over them when they came out back in the 70's but I could never afford a ew boat then. And by the time i could afford any boat, I had a family & they were just a little too small for us. Post us a piccy of Harvey if you have one. I just love the idea of short -tacking with 2 mainsails!
