No not the one in the middle For the last few months Pampered has been on the hard between these two. They have been there for nearly 12 months now. Not for sale as far as I know, plus I've never seen anyone on them. The position at the marina is one of the dirtiest there is. It's North facing and with all the dead leaves that are piled up there it's been impossible to go on the boat without leaving black footprints. The one to the left (in the picture) looks even worse when viewed from on top. It makes my heart bleed when I see good boats just start to rot like these two.

I have a degree of sympathy...
Marinas and harbours can be full of broken dreams.
It's very easy to upgrade your boat thinking you'll have loads of spare time, a wife/family who'll join in or that finding people to sail with you when it suits you will be easy.
Must say tho that if my boat sat a full year unused I'd more than likely put her up for sale..

Leisure 22 early 23 ? Shame and I reckon we all know a few people who'd love to have it and look after her.
I can understand where person is limited in time to visit / work on - but if just left for 12 months .... somethings not right ?
I know a small Eventide that sat at Eastney for ages - guy died and widow just ignored it ... finally was broken up .......... couldn't even get through to her to sell it. She asked 'someone she knew' to get rid of it. Of course they weren't interested to do a proper job. In the end Yard Rule was enforced and boat was stripped - auctioned of bits and pieces, hull was chainsawed. I heard she took the auction money and never even batted a thankyou or eyelid.

Blummin 'eck that one in middle is a bit shiny! Poor sods who own the other two probably came down all enthoosiastic with a bucket and mop, took one look, got back in their cars and went home to cry... ;D

The cosmetics on the one that isn't Escapade resemble mine. Mind you she's had a new engine, rewire, rudder rebuild, hull crack repaired etc.....Will get around to thorough rubdown later. She's like me I suppose - shabby but functional. Now when I were a lad in Yorkshire, the richer the farmer the tattier he looked. I've got the hang of tatty but failed on the rich.

So very true. Wife managed to get us invited to a posh do at the hall with his lordship the other week which was something of a challenge dress code wise... we can do casual but smart-casual is now probably beyond us. The necessity to keep the working bits working is one of my favourite reasons for the boat not looking terribly smart. But her appearance is now beginning to bother me and Malcb's efforts postively glowing from the screen don't help so I may yet change for the good...

May father had a 2 1/2 tonner years ago .... but ours was gaff rigged with bumpkin etc. I always slept on the floor between the two bunks. yep here's me with Mum !! ... yarmouth Isle of Wight long before the advent of marina etc. ... you can see our Hilyard in the background on the piles. The dinghy stage was opposite harold Hayles which is just ahead of our Hilyard.

Quite a sweety isn't it ? Only ever seen the little hilyards in the water before so good to have a study of the lines. The habitues tell me that she has been there a few years. Started off in reasonable condition.......apparently, but gone down hill as we can see. Yard bills still paid

I must admit I have a very soft spot for the 2 1/2 ton Hillyard. If I didn't have my current boat I think that is what I would have.......

My father reckoned it was his favourite boat out of all he had .. apart from the Stuart Turner that was fitted to it !! It would start when cold, it would start when overheated ... but at running temp ? Forget it !!

The Leisure probably just needs a cosmetic make-over and some gear servicing but the Hillyard looks like it would need some serious work; I should imagine as one dug deeper on the project it could become almost a total restoration job. Often by the time one can see that much rot in the planking there will much more lurking unseen. A real shame.
I've often fancied a small wooden boat around 18 -22 foot preferably gaff cutter or similar but the restoration time puts them out of my reach for the time being.

Looking at the Hillyard two and a half tonner, there's something nasty going on with the sheerstrake and the second strake down on the starboard side in way of the cockpit, and its been going on for a while as there is an old repair. Hillayrds would not have fitted a short end like that to the sheerstrake.
Otherwise, looks all right; the rust steaking is from the galvanised chainplates.

I have a couple of dinghy projects waiting attention, infact I think I get away quite lightly with Mrs, I have my 28' 1972er on a mooring, a ridged dinghy on the beach, an inflatable in the car and garden, two Herons and an Oppie oh, and an old 8' tender, also in the garden and a shed full of boat bits.
The Hillyard needs saving but if I... well divorce?
