I thought I would start a new post on here for anybody interested in going to Brest in 2008? it is from the 11-17th July www.brest2008.fr/en/I am planning to go depending on how seaworthy I can get Roach this Winter. Would be interested to see if anybody else has an inclinations of going?

No.2 to Brest,
400+ miles from east coast
It's going to be a wonderful experience & put another +1000 nm on Athena's 57 years
I hate making lists but i had better start, they always seem to get longer, the only way of making them shorter is to tear-it- in-half: 1. 2. 3.

Planning to go, as long at the work gets done and I find suitable crew to go there. A couple of weeks off work and the chance to get some good sailing and socialising in. I'll probably try and do it in a couple of hits. Ramsgate, Solent, Brest prolly, although I should really put in at Dartmouth and see some old friends. Maybe drop the Solent.

These people sent me an e-mail saying that they will be at the London Boat Show to see prospective sailors going down to Brest to coordinate timings. www.goodwillraid.com/

Are you going to LIBS then? I will only be able to attempt it on the preview day, or the Monday.

Have you bought a pilot book yet? Maybe we can swap notes on the quality of these publications! Just ordered Secret Anchorage of Britanny by Cumberlidge but this is not really a pilot book.

i was given an old copy, a bit diff top follow and get your bearings also have another which is good north brittany and the channel islands - imray - john lawson
no charts yet, have plotted gps waypoints to give me an idea of where i'm going, using last years reeds
so i've broken the whole trip into day trips if needed, mooring in allsorts of places from up a river or 2 to the odd marina to do my washing

Went to the boat show and the Goodwill Raid people seemed really helpful - Specially Will Sutherland that talked to us a length about the raids. They can book marina's and get discounts on stuff. I might join up with them specially for the channel crossing. Apparently there is a lot more info yet to come on-line on their website.

Athena - curious..... will you be towing that pram all the way? Given the tidal range a tender will be a vital bit of kit. Not sure what I will do as my flubber is too big folded down below and it seems to catch the sheets when on deck, so need to think of a some stowage soultion on that one.

The classic boat stand is good. I weened a few ideas from Bodacia - a 200 yr old smack in concours condition. Need to make an anchor pawl for all this chain! Apart from that I did not do much.
Latvia - mmmhhh - that well know culinary destination.....
Brest - I think PyroJames might be coming.

the only good thing about all this chain is that it wont have orwell/stour mud on it,
i'm going to have to do back-building exercises, its going to take some planning to get it to go down below, strange really as one is going to need a rest afterwards
practice required i think

Good idea!
Athena, do you have a radar reflector and horn? I'm thinking about that as that Coast can apprently get strong summer mists/fogs.
