Some of us from the North West decided to meet up for an over night on the sands at Red Wharf Bay. We left Caernarfon at 0930 Saturday the other Yacht leaving Conway about the same time and made our way though to the northern end of the Meni Strait between Black point and puffin Island where we had our companion in sight and into Red Wharf Bay we both picked up moorings and waited for the tide to go out. Then it was fun and games on the sands Kite flying we where to be joined by another Yacht out of Conway but unfortunately he had a stay sail problem and had to decline the sea trip but his family and he joined us by road. Some of the group paid a visit to the local Yacht club and where made warmly welcome. Back on board when we re-floated we made a move to a more convenient mooring so as to be able to leave mins after we floated on the next tide 'Sunday morning' so as to make the tide gate for the return thought the swilles it was all OK with a bit of extra correction to the helm occasionally and over in about five mins. Finally back in Caernarfon on our trot at 1415. Not a lot of sun, no rain, not a lot of wind (in the wrong direction) so mainly motor sailing but a very good week end and throughly enjoyed by all.

I saw a Seagull on the pushpit ... Kingfisher ? Classic !!
Great ... I've heard a lot about that stretch of water ... would love to sail it ... and West Coast of Scotland ... East Coast mud-banks etc. etc.
Great.

Sounding like a birdspotter! Marc. Haven't got the anorak or parka I'm afraid !! I am not exactly sure of the model I think it's a 40 Searush would answer that one. But I can say she started 2nd real pull and took us off the trot to the wall and then started first pull on the way back to the boat with the skipper.

Look like the later Kingfisher with recoil starter ! ... has it got an engage drive lever at side ? some have some haven't ... Me - I'd have a Seagull anyday ... not only for its simplicity - but also there's a strangeness to that seagull engine sound that is unique ! Bit like the Porsche 911 turbo - nothing else sounds like it !!

It's a 40 Featherweight with the recoil starter pack add-on. It looks like a bag of old crock but runs a treat. The plug looks rusted in & I bought a new one but it looked so out of place I put the rusty one back in! None of that Gear box nonsense to go wrong! Stop it with the choke & your hand over the air intake,
I got it off e-bay as "renovated" but the seller had simply painted over the oil/ rust & water splashes so most of the paint fell off as soon as I touched it. The tank was full of rust & had to be cleaned out and the fuel tap cork was badly shrunk (a good boil in an old pan sorted that out) but it has always started & run well provided the fuel is reasonably fresh. I did check the serial number & it is about late 70's early 80's I think so quite a late one. One day when I feel daft I will get it a battered brass tank so it really looks the part!
