Further to my antifoul and anode thread I thought I would ask specific questions on anodes, it may save others money
When I lifted my boat out yesterday I changed a number of anodes, just because I thought as I had lifted it to check I may as well, BUT, when I contacted volvo today to get a replacement set as spares I could not believe the price. When I bought the boat last year I just asked for a spare of anything that could be changed, belts, filters anodes e.t.c. I didn't even look at the price but all were delivered in a nice box. So when I delved into the box yesterday I was proud that I had got spare anodes and was organised, that was until today when I went to replace my stock
This is the anode cost for my boat, total at the end incl vat
Volvo D4 260 hp engine x 2
Lower leg anodes :- 3588745 x 2 (about £41.00 each)
Upper (triangle type) leg anodes :- 35888746 x 2 (about £50.33 each)
Tie bar anode (ball type) x 1 :- Martyr 1 1/4 (about £20)
Trim tab anodes :- x 2 (about £20 each)
Bow thruster anode :- QL 41100098 (about £11)
(Approx total cost of anodes incl VAT £297)
So PLEASE could someone with experience look at the picture below of the anodes I took off and CONFIRM to me that I did the right thing, I would hate to think I had changed them when I didn't need to and with £170 or so for a lift and hold plus the anodes I used it could have been an expensive excercise
I have always had new boats and sold them within a year before the anodes had worn out or it needed servicing, so this game is new to me
Is it time to buy another new boat, is this one just going to cost money to maintain? I am having both engines serviced when I get back off holiday, cost £150 per engine plus £200 of parts in total plus VAT = £587.50 It's a 150hr service (yes I have been blatting about a bit ;D) is this a bargain, fair, or costly?
I think I need to use this forum BEFORE I do anything on my boat, interesting to see the panels views as to whether I have wasted any money or been clever and shrewd
