My boat has a rev counter fitted to a panel inside the cabin. Now this is a daft place as I really want to see what the revs are when I'm in the cockpit. Is it possible to fit a second rev counter in the cockpit, either piggy backed off the first rev counter, or off the engine connections?

I see no reason why a second instrument wired in parallel would not work. But unfortunately if it is electronic then funny things can and most times do happen the only way is to try an identical unit to the fist and see if it gives a reliable reading. My Preference would be to move the one you have now to a more convenient position.

Depends on what drives the rev counter, W terminal on the alternator ( may be OK) or a plused output fromthe engine (should be OK)

This prompts me to ask another question ... one which has been on - off with me for some time ...
I have no engine gauges at all ... no revs, temp, oil etc. .... nought !
I've toyed with idea of temp .... dual car dash type ... epoxy one sensor to engine block, second bind to exhaust hose ...
Also a RPM jobbie ... But having a non-standard mount for the alternator - I'm unsure if the output from alternator would be correct. Is there any mechanical or optical rev counter that can be read remote ... and how fitted ? I used to have a mechanical rev counter that you press against crankshaft nut .... designed for model airplanes ... but it was an all-in one piece unit.
