I've been told before - but now I'm getting old - I forget things !! I'm really tempting fate - as I am considering giving it a service ........ it's never let me down ... it's never had a service that I know of .. it works a treat ... So any chance of Model Type / # and Maker ? I have reason to think its a Simpson Lawrence ... but which one ?? Nothing marked on it at all. It's manual as well. ??

Lofrans Royal ....
Just looked on the website ..............
Also part dismantled it ... found it clean and well greased inside ... so put it back together and will leave well alone ... checked a few stroked with the lever - smooth and good.

Now THAT's what I call a windlass. It's probably strong enough to lift your boat clear out of the water - if the foredeck was strong enough that is!
The SL 400 on my 31' Pentland is smaller! Do you use it much? I find I prefer to just haul up the anchor by hand - it is far quicker. Although it was useful once when I snagged a mooring, it had the power to lift the lot (pulled the bows down a bit tho') allowing me to slip a line under to release the snagged anchor.

Although it was useful once when I snagged a mooring, it had the power to lift the lot (pulled the bows down a bit tho') allowing me to slip a line under to release the snagged anchor. I used to move mooring blocks (large concrete round jobs normally needing 3 - 4 empty oil drums) .... Used to place boat over on part tide ..... wind in on riser chain / ground .... put length of normal anchor chain onto ground chain as near to sinker as possible ... then wind up hard ................ literally bottoming boat out ... Then let tide do rest .... With a BIG WHOOSH as it came free !! One guy who used to help me was sitting on aft rail when it came free one time - he never did that again. But yes that windlass will literally haul that boat anywhere ... it has a large teak pad on deck and another under ....
