I have been making plastic stern bearings for Vegas for the last 8 years made out of "Oilon" or "Nyloil" which is an oil-impregnated nylon. Only problem I have found is the 2% absorbtion.
I have contacted Vesconite in South Africa and they are sending me a length of their bearing material with a quoted absorbtion of between 0.004 - 0.007% Does anyone have any experience of this material "Vesconite" and "Vesconite Lube"??
Cheers Steve B

Plastic can absorb water and other liquids. If you make the stern bearing as a good fit then launch, the bearing will absorb water and swell in size. As you can guess the bearing will become too tight and can seize onto the shaft. Hopefully this new material will enable me to produce the bearings in the correct size without any alteration to try and second-guess what teh absorbtion will actually be. Hope this explains. Will keep you informed of its suitability after testing.

Steve. I understand the material I sent you is water lubed and best suited for stern tube outer end and out rigger P brackets. Cheers David.
